PTTEP begins generating solar electricity for use in petroleum production, supporting its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

Bangkok, August 31, 2023 – PTTEP has launched the solar power generation project "Lan Saeng Arun" to be used in the petroleum production process of the S1 Project. This marks the first time that electricity from renewable energy is being utilized for petroleum production in Thailand, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. This represents another step of commitment towards the Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions goal and becoming a low-carbon organization.
Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), revealed that as PTTEP has set a target to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through the EP Net Zero 2050 concept, one of the key initiatives is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from petroleum production processes. PTTEP has therefore developed the "Lan Saeng Arun" Solar Power Plant project in Lan Krabue District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, to utilize clean energy for power generation in the S1 Project's petroleum production process. This will reduce electricity consumption generated from natural gas and help lower greenhouse gas emissions, distinguishing itself as the first project in Thailand to utilize renewable energy electricity to support petroleum production.
The "Lan Saeng Arun" solar power generation project commenced electricity production in July 2023. It is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the petroleum production process by approximately 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, which is equivalent to planting 1,300,000 trees per year to absorb greenhouse gases.
The "Lan Saeng Arun" solar power generation project has a capacity of 9.98 megawatts and is operated by FutureTech Energy Ventures Company Limited (FTEV), a subsidiary of PTTEP that conducts business in clean energy such as renewable energy and hydrogen, to support the energy transition and sustainable growth. Recently, FTEV joined an investment and development project for a large-scale green hydrogen production safety facility in the Sultanate of Oman, which will utilize electricity from solar and wind energy for green hydrogen production. Both projects reflect PTTEP's concrete commitment to advancing into the clean energy business.
